Protect areas not being painted from accidental overspray.

Allow paint to dry between coats.

Find a snow couple image on line by searching Google images with the key words "snowman stencils" or "snowman coloring pages”.  Copy your image and size it to be no more than 7.25" tall.  Also find a snowflake image and a heart.

  1. Print the images on card stock.  Use a craft knife to cut and outline the images.
  2. Mark the 12" x 16" canvas vertically at 5.50" from the left edge.  Place painters tape on the line to separate the left and right side.
  3. Spray the wrong side of the snow couple, the heart, and the snowflake with adhesive.  Place the snow couple die cut glue side down on the right side of the canvas 5.50" from the canvas's top edge and centered on the right panel.  Place the snowflake die cut above the couple.  Mix a little white paint with the blue to lighten it.  Airbrush the right canvas panel with the blue paint.
  4. Arrange the word “True” 1.50" from the top of the canvas.  The word "Melts" should be positioned at 11.50" from the top of the canvas.   Arrange the other words with equal spacing in between each.  Tilt all the letters slightly and alternate placement so they are not lined up perfectly.  Once they are arranged, peel off the backings and stick the letters to the canvas.  Place the heart die cut below the words.
  5. Move the painter’s tape to the right side to cover the edge of the painted blue panel. Airbrush the left panel with black paint.
  6. When dry, peel off the letters and the heart.  If bits of the letter backing remain, alcohol applied with a Q-tip will remove it easily.  Use paint or a marker to color the heart red.
  7. Remove the painter’s tape.  Peel off the snow couple template and snowflake. Following the lines of your images lightly create a pencil sketch on the canvas for the couple’s clothing.
  8. Use a fine brush or markers to color the hats, scarves and other features of the couple.  Start with outlines then fill in colors and add shading.  Alcohol markers were used for this canvas.
  9. Create a snowdrift below the couple with a straight-edged brush and white paint.  Position the brush perpendicular to the canvas and drag the paint about an inch.  Turn the brush slightly to blend into a thicker line.
  10. Dip an old toothbrush into the white paint and tap it onto a paper towel to remove excess.  With a gloved finger, flick the bristles to create snow on the entire canvas.
  11. Apply E600 to a rhinestone and place it in the center of the snowflake.
